Australia, known as the Land Down Under, is a nation with its own Continent.
Captain James Cook landed in Botany Bay in 1770. Seventeen years later on May 13,
1787 a fleet of eleven vessels captained by Arthur Phillip left Britain bound for
Botany Bay to establish a penal colony. Phillip found Botany Bay unsuitable and
quickly sailed north to settle an area known today as the cosmopolitan city of
Sydney on Sydney Harbour.
Australia is comprised of six states colonized by the British in the following
order: New South Wales 1788; Tasmania 1825; Western Australia 1830; South Australia
1836; Victoria 1851; and Queensland 1859. Australia was a British Colony until 1901.
Each state has its own national park(s) characterizing each regions diverse terrain.

states second largest city and Australia's third oldest city. Unlike Hobart, Launceston
was developed by free settlers.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder
is a bustling city in the middle of nowhere. The town was discovered by a gold prospector
in 1893 who found enough gold to ignite a new gold rush. Although mining is still important
today, the city also have a thriving tourist trade.
This vast state
covers one fifth of Australia with less than 1 percent of Australia's population living
there. Darwin is the state Capital inhabited by a blend of European, Asian and Aboriginal
cultures. This region is most notably famous for the Uluru rock formation, formerly known
as Ayers Rock red center of the Continent. This region will give you the real Australian
Outback experience.
